Just because you’re a woman, doesn’t mean you’re weak.
Just because you’re strong, doesn’t mean you can’t be vulnerable.
A strong woman is someone who is fearless but filled with emotions. Someone who is powerful but filled with love.
“Girls should never be afraid to be smart”Emma Watsons
We fight the battles ourselves that we alone understand. But together we stand, we aren’t alone.
To the women’s who were told you can’t just because you’re a woman – they are wrong.
The answer “just because you’re a girl” could change the fate of her life.
Growing up in an Asian culture (and country), girls were meant to wear skirts. Play with dolls. Stay in-doors. You’re not allowed to sit with your legs crossed or on the floor. Not to get dirty and muddy. You gotta wear those nice ribbon shoes and not sneakers.
And in the worst-case scenario (this really happens), you’re abandoned and given up for adoption or even abortion – just because you’re a girl.
I am proud to say that I am where I am today, because of my mother. She saw something in me and believed in me before I even did myself. She taught me how to be strong but yet vulnerable, how to be independent. How to be powerful but yet loving. She, was a teacher herself, someone who was kind, loving and from what I hear – the best teacher anyone could ask for. Friends who were in her class or knew her would still ask about her. Heck, friends who aren’t even from her school but has met once would miss her already.
I cook, I sew, I read, and am obsessed with makeup and fashion which sounds really feminine, but at the same time, I love burgers and fries, a 500g steak or an all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ would make me smile from ear to ear. My dream car is a Mustang Shelby GT500 and I love racing. I love my pumps but also am obsessed with my sneakers.
And you know what’s funny?
Guys don’t believe I can cook – because apparently nobody does anymore with UberEats and Deliveroo and GrabFood and any other food delivery services. But at the same time, they don’t think I don’t even know how a GT500 looks like. Or that there is more than just the A4 from Audi. Or the fact that I could finish a 500g steak and burgers are my favourite food.
Nuff bout food.
I am glad that people are starting to see that women can do more! We want to be given the choice and the opportunities to be able to do so much more! We want to be able to turn down offers and opportunities because we know our values and what we deserve, not to be told “you’re lucky to even get this”
Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t.
